To provide a web presence as an outreach medium that identifies and illuminates talented local Middle Tennessee visual artists who are currently under the radar of the art enthusiast, collector and/ or curator.
Nancy Hilgert – Founder
“I don’t remember when I started drawing; I only remember always doing it. And it didn’t matter if it was a pencil, a crayon or a stick in the mud, anything was fine with me,” she laughs. Born in Washington, DC and raised in Northern Virginia, Nancy was fortunate to have art classes throughout her entire education, choosing the Art and Architecture Department at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville for her BFA double major in Drawing and Studio Art.
An avid follower of the advice of J. Jason Horejes, owner of Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ and his book “‘Starving’ to Successful”, Nancy passionately agrees that spending time with other artists is the most important thing to do to feed one’s career. Repeatedly meeting women artists with much talent but reservations about their directions, Nancy was inspired in 2009 to form Women Artists of Middle Tennessee, a no dues, no agenda monthly lunch date. Attendees benefit by learning from each other’s experience and enjoying a greater sense of community and contribution.
Nancy is a local, regional and national award winning artist who enjoys competition, gallery representation and solo exhibits, while mentoring and promoting other artists. She started “art docs” in 2014, a critical collateral service geared to artists which also includes marketing strategies, web site coaching and career development. “
“Assisting other artists move forward is so rewarding, “ she shares. “I’m so passionate about helping fill in the gaps, enabling other artists to move forward with their goals more quickly and easily. I believe that with greater connectivity and exposure to the very people and resources they need, artists are far better able to achieve their dreams, in whatever form
Nancy has enjoyed juried membership and competition with the National Association of Women Artists, NY, the international Pencil Art Society and the former Tennessee Artisans Market to name a few. Her full biography and resume can be found on NancyHilgertFineArt.com.
Carmen Bellos – Co-Founder
Carmen looks at art as a way to connect with and learn about individuals who may have similar and/or very different views on culture, nature and personal expression. Having traveled extensively, she learned much about a country by the art that was displayed, not only in galleries, but in people’s homes, in the piazza’s and on sides of buildings. In her mind the talented artist illuminates and informs us about themselves and their environment as only they can express it. Carmen is a collector of a wide variety of art including pieces from Nancy Hilgert, Gary Curtis, Camille Engel, and Peach McComb to name a few.
Carmen is a successful businesswoman in the healthcare industry. She has directed Health information Management departments and was awarded” Mentor/Educator of the Year” for her leadership in a Health Information Management program at a career college in Madison TN. Her mission is to make a positive difference for others by way of education and encouragement. Being part of a movement to illuminate great lesser known artists is one of the ways she hopes to accomplish this goal.
